Internet outages shouldn’t prevent you from working in Google Drive.
Set up offline access so you can view and edit your files any time.
Examples
- Work on the go, even if you don’t have internet access.
- Edit Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and more during internet outages.
- Work during long flights without Wi-Fi.
Instructions
Make non-Google files on your desktop available offline
- Click Drive File Stream drive_file_stream.
- Click Open Google Drive folder_mydrive.
- Go to the file or folder you want to access offline, right-click it, and select Drive File Stream > Available offline.
- Set up offline availability:
- To make sure you have the Google Docs Offline extension installed and enabled, in Chrome, at the top right, click More more_vert > More Tools > Extensions.
- In Drive, click Settings settings > Settings.
- In General, next to Offline, check the sync offline box.
- Click Done.
- Make a file accessible offline:
- Open the Drive, Docs, Sheets, or Slides app.
- Touch and hold a file for 1–2 seconds. Do one of the following actions:
- For Drive files: At the bottom, tap More more_vert > Available offline.
- For Docs, Sheets, or Slides files: Tap Available offline.
A checkmark appears to show that the file is available offline.
- Tap Menu menu > Offline to view and edit offline files.
- Open the Drive, Docs, Sheets, or Slides app.
- Next to the file you want to edit offline, tap More more_vert > Available offline. A pin appears to show that the file is available offline.
- (Optional) To see all offline files, tap Menu menu > Offline.
- Tap the file you want to edit.
